Water is essential in conventional power generation. Power plants use raw water for vapor production and cooling purposes (in nuclear, coal-fired, and gas-fired plants).

Johnson Screens provides water intake solutions that efficiently avoid the intake of debris and solids while not representing a threat to the aquatic life.

Creating an Ecological Solution to the Zebra Mussel Problem

We introduced an innovative approach to combat the Zebra Mussel infestation, which is detrimental to power plant water intakes.

We implemented an eco-friendly solution with water intakes constructed with patented solid copper nickel Z-Alloy wire.

Since the first installation in the J.H. Campbell Power Plant in 1993, we’ve proved the effectiveness of the Z-Alloy design and provided years of Zebra Mussel protection.
